Tips from a "Professional Bridesmaid"

My friends affectionately refer to me as the "Professional Bridesmaid." This last wedding season I attended 12 weddings!  Yep, 12!  I also had the honor of being a bridesmaid for the 10th time!  I know what you're thinking- 'You're like the girl in that movie!'  Yes, 27 Dresses was loosely based on my life.  ;) 

After being in so many weddings, naturally I've picked up some very valuable survival skills.  In a perfect world, every wedding would go off without a hitch, but in reality, sometimes you have to put out a few fires.  Here are my top 10 tips for being an AMAZING Bridesmaid!

1. Always have an emergency kit: 

Large Safety pins (incase your friend loses 5 pounds the week before the wedding and needs the have the side seams taken in.  I've had to do this at least 5 times.)  Bandaids and bandaid stick, stain remover, needle & thread in the color of the bridesmaid dresses and the bride's gown, travel size deodorant (someone always forgets it), snacks, mints, ibuprofen, tampons, facial blotting paper

2. Learn how to tie the bustle!  The extra safety pins from the emergency kit will also come in handy if the bustle falls out. 

3. Hold your flowers low.  You'll look thinner and your posture will be better.

4. Write your speech! If you are asked to be the Maid of Honor, live up to that title!  I've seen so many girls try to wing it and they ALWAYS crash and burn and it shows a lack of respect to your friend.  If you're not the best public speaker practice in front of your fellow bridesmaids. 

5. Be the Go to Girl.  On the day of the wedding, different vendors and family members may have last minute questions for the bride.  The last thing your friend needs is to be stressed out by a million texts.  Help direct the questions to either a designated 'Lady in Waiting' or take charge and take on the role yourself. 

6.  Keep her hydrated! Make sure the bride is drinking water and eating throughout the day.  You don't want her fainting.

7. Remember, it's not about you.  Be flexible and willing to run last minute errands.  

8. Cut the hanger straps out of the wedding gown. This is a huge pet peeve of mine because I've seen SO many girls walk down the aisle with that little strap peeking out.  

9. Make sure she's always photo ready.  Keep the same lipstick/gloss the bride is wearing on hand.  She'll likely be preoccupied and forget to reapply.  It's your job to make sure she's looking her best at all times.

10. NO drama!  If you have issues with your fellow bridesmaids, do NOT bring that drama and stress to the wedding!  The bride should feel like all of her friends are their to support and have fun with her.  The last thing she needs is to be worried about everyone getting along.  Have FUN!!
